Restaurant Website Migration
GloriaFood is closing in April 2027.
Here is what came next for one restaurant.
GloriaFood, the free online ordering platform used by thousands of independent restaurants worldwide, is closing in April 2027. Every restaurant on it now has a forced migration coming. This is what happened when Moores Fish & Chips in Milton Keynes decided not to wait.
01 · The Situation
A free platform with a shutdown clock.
Moores had a working online ordering setup on GloriaFood. It was free, it worked, and moving away from it was not obviously urgent.
Then the shutdown announcement changed the maths. Every restaurant on GloriaFood now has a forced migration coming, and no way to keep the same setup after April 2027. The question stopped being "should we change?" and became "on whose terms?"
The underlying issue
When your ordering and your website live on a platform you do not control, someone else decides when your setup ends. GloriaFood is not the last free platform that will shut down. It is the current one.
02 · The Decision
Own the website. Do not rent it again.
The alternative to GloriaFood is not "find the next free platform." That just moves the problem to the next shutdown announcement.
Moores moved to an owned website: files the business controls, hosted on infrastructure with no shutdown clock, managed under a fixed monthly arrangement. Ordering integrations sit as a component of the site, not the site itself.
The trade is honest. Free platforms cost nothing until they cost everything at once. Owned websites cost something small, monthly, forever, and do not disappear.
03 · What Changed
Outcomes first. The technology underneath second.
/01
The business owns the website
Files, domain, hosting account. Nothing critical sits on a platform that can be discontinued by someone else. Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript, stored in a repository the business has rights to.
/02
The site stays available
Fast on mobile, resilient under traffic spikes, HTTPS enforced. Takeaway customers on 4G do not wait for a slow page. Served from Cloudflare Pages, edge cached across 300 plus cities.
/03
Security is handled, not homework
No login for the restaurant to remember, no plugin updates to chase, no attack surface to worry about. Strict content security policy, security headers, bot protection, spam filtering on the contact form.
/04
Changes happen without a project
New menu, new hours, new prices. Sent through, live the same working day. No re-quoting, no waiting for a "web person" to reply. Version-controlled deployments, one-business-day turnaround per the Keep service commitment.
/05
One operator, one number to call
Domain, hosting, ordering links, business email. If something breaks, there is one person accountable, not a chain of suppliers pointing at each other. DNS, TLS, email authentication and hosting routed and monitored from the same place.
/06
The arrangement continues after launch
Websites do not stay maintained by themselves. The site keeps running, the domain keeps resolving, security stays current. That is what Keep is. Fixed monthly fee, no per-hour billing, no surprise invoices.
04 · The Outcome
A website Moores owns, on infrastructure they do not have to think about.
The website is live at mooresmk.co.uk. When April 2027 arrives, nothing has to happen. The shutdown is somebody else's problem now.
That is what Keep does. Not a launch, an arrangement: the site keeps working, the domain keeps resolving, security stays current, changes get made without a project every time.
05 · Common Questions
GloriaFood shutdown, answered.
When is GloriaFood shutting down?
GloriaFood has announced it will close in April 2027. After that date, the platform and its ordering widget will no longer be available. Every restaurant currently using it will need to have moved to something else before then.
What are the alternatives to GloriaFood?
Broadly three options. Move to another commission-free ordering platform and accept the same risk again. Move to a commission-based marketplace like Just Eat or Deliveroo and give up a share of every order. Or move to an owned website with ordering integrated as a component. Moores chose the third.
Can I keep using GloriaFood until it closes?
Yes, but every month spent on GloriaFood is a month not spent building on a platform that will still exist in 2028. Migration takes time. Testing takes time. Customers need to be told. The restaurants that move earliest will have a working setup before the platform users start scrambling.
How long does it take to migrate off GloriaFood?
For a two-location restaurant like Moores, the website itself takes a matter of weeks to design, build and deploy once content and brand direction are agreed. The ordering integration and customer communication add to that. Plan for a project of one to three months end to end, depending on complexity.
Do I need a new website to leave GloriaFood?
Not always. Some restaurants have an existing website that GloriaFood was embedded into, and only the ordering component needs replacing. Others were relying on GloriaFood's own hosted restaurant website builder and need a full new site. The audit is the first step, not the assumption.
Who manages the website after migration?
That depends on how it is built. A one-off build handed over means the restaurant becomes responsible for hosting, updates, security and downtime. A managed arrangement like Keep means one operator handles those, on a fixed monthly fee, for as long as the arrangement runs.
Still on GloriaFood?
There is time. There will not be forever. If you would rather move before the deadline than after, we can talk about what your setup would look like on infrastructure you own.
